Chief Michael Vogel is a retired Fire Chief and United States Marine Corps veteran with more than 30 years of experience in fire, emergency medical, and emergency management leadership. Born on August 17, 1965, in Toledo, Ohio, he committed his career to public service and operational leadership across several departments in Texas and Florida. Following his military service, he began his fire service career as a volunteer firefighter with the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department in Cypress, Texas, from 1993 to 1996. He then joined The Woodlands Fire Department as a full-time firefighter and paramedic while also serving part-time as a captain at the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department. These early roles helped him build both operational and leadership experience. After graduating from high school, Michael J. Vogel enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1984. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he served as a Field Communications Specialist. During his time in the military, he achieved the rank of Lance Corporal and received an honorable discharge in 1988. He is recognized as a disabled veteran with a service-connected rating. In June 1998, Vogel joined the Arlington Fire Department in Texas, where he served until March 2019. Over more than two decades, he advanced through every operational rank, including Firefighter/Paramedic, Apparatus Operator, Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain, Hazmat Captain, Battalion Chief, and ultimately Deputy Fire Chief and Shift Commander. In his senior leadership role, he oversaw 17 stations and managed a $70-million budget, supervising a wide range of emergency response units. In 2019, Michael served as Fire Chief for the Paris Fire Department in Texas, where he managed a $5-million budget and directed both firefighters and code enforcement staff. From September 2019 to May 2022, he served as Assistant Fire Chief for Alachua County Fire Rescue in Gainesville, Florida, leading the hiring of nearly 100 personnel and completing an ISO inspection. Vogel later served as Fire Chief of the Newberry Fire Department in Florida from June 2022 to February 2025, where he modernized operations and secured over $1 million in grants. From 2023 to 2024, he also served as Interim Fire Chief of the High Springs Fire Department in Florida, overseeing personnel and maintaining operational continuity during a leadership transition. Chief Michael Vogel holds an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Technology and maintains multiple professional certifications. He has been married to Amy Sue Vogel since October 22, 1994, and they have five adopted children.
