Course: BA Film Favorite Novel: One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It introduced me to magical realism and expanded my notions of writing and creative expression. Favorite Film: Akira, directed by Katsuhiro Otomo. A groundbreaking film, paving the way for foreign animation to reach an international scale. Explores high concepts of friendship and government, and is one of the most inventive science fiction works of all time. Favorite Media Practicioner: Japanese animator Satoshi Kon. Innovated editing styles for his films, broke new grounds in storytelling in a relatively small repertoire (he died young). I learn new filmmaking techniques every time I watch his films. Favorite Musician: Death Grips. A Sacramento-based experimental hip-hop group. Always pushing the limits of what even constitutes as music, I love their raw feel and uncompromising take on hip-hop and rock. Favorite Site: Reddit. I'm on it everyday, the vastness of its different communities allows for tailor-made experiences, and niche subreddits allow for extreme in-depth discussion and critique. Favorite Meal: Nothing beats a well-made burger and thick-cut fries. Handmade preferably. I love layers of flavor and a high-quality burger has all of it in an easy package. Hobbies: Writing, playing video games, building mechanical keyboards, operating Linux distributions
