Dhaka, Bangladesh

Sayem Sobhan Anvir has adeptly guided Bashundhara Group from its foundational days in 1987 as East-West Property Development (Pvt) to its status as a leading global industrial conglomerate engaged in over 20 significant industries. As Managing Director, he was instrumental in the group’s initial public offering with Meghna Cement Mills Limited, marking Bashundhara's first appearance on Bangladesh’s stock exchanges and heralding a new era of growth and diversification. Under Anvir’s stewardship, Bashundhara Group has embraced cutting-edge technologies and innovative business strategies, reinforcing its competitive edge in the global marketplace. One of his notable achievements includes securing the largest Cutter-Suction dredger in Bangladesh, which has significantly bolstered the country’s infrastructure development capacity, particularly in challenging land reclamation projects. Expanding the group’s operational scope, Anvir spearheaded the creation of Bashundhara Oil and Gas Company Ltd. (BOGCL), which supplies essential petroleum products critical for the country's developmental projects. He also pioneered the establishment of Bashundhara Gold Refinery Limited, setting a new benchmark for the precious metals industry within the region. In finance, Anvir facilitated Bashundhara’s strategic acquisition of a 25% stake in the Chittagong Stock Exchange via ABG Ltd., enhancing the financial institution’s governance and operational efficacy. This move is part of his vision to foster a robust capital market in Bangladesh. Committed to corporate ethics, he has cultivated a workplace environment that values and supports over 50,000 employees, prioritizing ethical practices and employee welfare across the conglomerate’s various operations. Anvir's industrial initiatives are profound. He launched Bangladesh’s largest bitumen plant under BOGCL, dramatically reducing the nation's reliance on imported bitumen. He is also at the forefront of developing the country’s largest oil refinery, which aims to secure Bangladesh's energy independence further. On the urban development front, Anvir's visionary projects, such as Bashundhara City, have transformed Dhaka’s landscape. This mega-shopping complex has become a key retail destination and a cultural landmark, attracting thousands of visitors daily. He also established the Bashundhara Sports Complex, the largest indoor sports facility in the country, which promotes physical activity and wellness among the urban population. To streamline and enhance Bashundhara’s logistical operations, Anvir established Bashundhara Logistics, integrating a fleet of 76 ships to boost the group’s distribution capabilities and ensure efficient and reliable transport of goods nationally and internationally. Anvir's philanthropic efforts underscore his commitment to societal improvement. He focuses mainly on healthcare and education. He actively supports various initiatives that provide essential services to underprivileged communities, including significant investments in hospitals, medical colleges, and specialized healthcare clinics. Anvir’s achievements have garnered recognition nationally and internationally, earning him the prestigious Commercially Important Person (CIP) designation from the Government of Bangladesh and congressional recognition from the United States for his significant contributions to enhancing bilateral business relations.
